Is Google Making

Specified Product Research Better or Worse?

Read Bruce Clay's article linked just below. Read between the lines and think about how the Google changes affect the results for architects researching products. Will they find your website or a local distributor or contractor? or Home Depot?

Are the Google design changes making it easier or more difficult to find the product data on your website? Specifiers have a broader base of product knowledge than most architects and better understand what they are looking for.
Organic Results Disappear? What To Do in the Near Future of SEO

My favorite quote from the article:

"When I try to anticipate where SEO is going, the most important question I ask is: How will Google make money?"

From my perspective Google is changing the web in 2 ways:

  1. Presenting the Google search results with increasing emphasis on local results, advertising results and videos.
  2. Promoting search results for websites that break the web for architects and specifiers in an office setting in ways few appreciate - emphasis on smart phone results, secure websites and html5 - cascading style sheets. Here is one specifier's comments on specified product website design found on his blog. His blog - presented in the link below including photos of his dual desk computer monitors - is a great expansion on my questions. Ask your web designer to counter with their thoughts and reasons for their design for your website:

My personal web design criteria remains as it was in 1996 - Put your 3-ring binder online and make it easy for the specifier and architect to use it.

More on getting specified and web design requirements in future months.
