Our goal is to include in the 4specs directory every manufacturer of construction products specified by US and Canadian architects by company or brand name. Plus 4specs provides links to trade associations and reference standards we identify to find additional information.
With the FTC current focus on identifying paid and free search engine results or listings, we want to be certain you understand what is paid and what is free. Our ads are in the form of a showcase listings at the top of the sections and include an image and 55-word description. In addition these paid listings appear in the alphabetical area and are identified by a bold face and a 55 word description. For example:
Our goals are to:
1. List for free every manufacturer of products specified in US/Canadian construction. This includes residential products, but does not include do-it-yourself type products. OEM suppliers and component suppliers will generally not be listed as they do not provide completed "specified products" to the industry, supplying their products to other manufacturers that do provide the final products. There is not always a clear line for this definition. In case of questions, advertising in Sweets, architectural publications or exhibiting at CSI/AIA conventions will be a strong case supporting a free listing.
Unlike many construction directories, we do not use every CSI section, as they can be redundant. As each section requires a separate page, and that page must be selected and loaded by the user, grouping related products together is the best way to optimize a manufacturer directory on the Internet.
2. List every manufacturer in every appropriate section. We use the CSI index system, also used by Sweets. The numbers are not always exactly the same.
Products with no clear classifications will be grouped with appropriate products. As 4specs has grown, we have divided some sections and not all companies may be correctly listed. Use either search function - they are very different - to see if 4specs includes the manufacturer.
