How Specifiers and Architects Use 4specs

You will see later that many specifiers use 4specs as a primary research tool. Several specifiers have told us 4specs is their browser home page. They tell the architects they are working to use 4specs to find the products they want to incorporate into their project, and they will write the specs.

Specifiers and architects use 4specs to select, incorporate into their designs, specify and approve materials on their projects. Our users know they save time compared to search engines.

Most users go directly to the section they are interested in:

  • Users coming in from the home page generally know the CSI MasterFormat numbering system and know where to go. CSI MasterFormat - tuned for product classification rather than for spec sections,
  • Search engine visitors are taken directly to the page with the key words they are searching for.

We have 4 specialized searches found on most pages:

  • Blue Search - This search is at the top of every page and returns the page the words searched for appear. This is a classic web search.

Search

  • Gold Search - This search, located on the bottom of section pages, returns the manufacturer's name, web link, phone and city, state and zip. These results are from a database, not the website. This is a great way to find how to contact the company as many companies have hidden the phone links.

Contact Search

  • Google Custom Search - This search uses the Google database and returns results from the top 3,500 sites on 4specs.

Google Custom Search

  • Regional Search - This search, located on the bottom of each section page, returns the section page sorted by zip code. This gives the user looking for regional materials, especially for LEED® projects, a great starting place for additional research. With a web link and the phone number the specifier or architect can easily call the company and verify the information.
